Dental Implant Surgery has specific home care instructions. Follow these guidelines to ensure it's success:
- Use gauze as a compress in your mouth to stop any moderate bleeding.
- Use ice packs or cold compresses to reduce swelling and pain.
- Stay on medications as directed (if prescribed).
- Avoid eating for at least a couple of hours before the procedure, then only eat soft foods for several months after your surgery.
- After 24 hours, resume brushing and flossing but be very gentle around your implant site. We may advise special instructions for cleaning.
- After 24 hours, try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water.
- Avoid tobacco products until complete healing has occurred.
You will most likely have discomfort for a few days after your procedure. However, if your implant shows through the gums, or you have persistant bleeding, pain or numbness, please call our office with your concerns.
